The African Media Leaders Forum

Findings from the two most comprehensive consultive and research exercises on the state of the African media (the African Media Development Initiative (AMDI and Strengthening African Media, STREAM), provided the necessary evidence and framework for the creation of AMI. These studies concluded that developing Africa’smedia industry is essential for addressing poverty and enabling and supporting Africa’s efforts to attain the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals which were targeted for 2015. Because most owners of African media outlets across the continent didn’t know one another, AMI created the African Media Leaders Forum (AMLF) bringing together media owners on a common platform for candid discussions about the role of media in Africa’s future.

Heads of State Roundtable Discussions

During AMLF 2012, held in Dakar, Senegal, AMI convened a Head of State Roundtable discussion between Senegalese President Macke Sall and media leaders from around the continent.

During AMLF 2013, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, AM! convened a Head of State Roundtable discussion between Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen, Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto and media leaders from around the continent.
